This is Day 40 of my challenge to get a 6 pack.
At first glance it doesn’t seem to make sense that I’m trying to get six pack abs without doing any exercises for my abdominal muscles.
I imagine that most people trying to get a six pack are busy working their mid-section like crazy.
Not me. I want to wait and see what I’ve got first before I start sculpting my abs with exercise.
I don’t much like the idea of working blind. The fact is I still have too much fat to get any clear idea of what’s going beneath the fat!
Why does it matter to me?
Well, I want to see my progress. I want to see what all the different exercises do for me and I want the option to change what I’m doing if I don’t like the results. I wouldn’t be able to do that working blind.
There’s a specific level of development that I’m looking for or more accurately a level of development I want to avoid, i.e the overdeveloped look.
I don’t want freakishly over developed abs. Partly because I don’t like the look anyway, but also because I have no plans to bulk of the rest of my muscle mass to outrageous proportions… so it would look very odd. (This is all assuming I have the raw materials and the genetics to make it possible.)
To be fair, I know I’m in no real danger of having and over developed abdomen, but it’s important to me that I have control over the process.
So the question was, can I get abs without doing abdominal exercises?
I believe so. I don’t think they’ll be well defined but I believe that when I get the body fat low enough I’ll be able to see distinct muscle groups.
But I am active. I do a lot of housework which involves a lot of pushing, pulling, bending, lifting and carrying. I also have a theory the kind of walking I do, with the undulating and challenging terrain gives my core a reasonable workout. We’ll see!!
