Six Pack Abs by Summer: Day 27, 28 & 29

This is Day 27, 28 & 29 of my attempt to get a flat stomach by the end of June. I’m doing it eating one meal a day and I’ve set myself a challenge to do 10,000 push ups & run a marathon– 1.5 miles at a time, all by the end of the month.

I’ve got 1 day left to achieve my goals.

I’m sore!

Sore in my arms and shoulders and sore in my thighs.

The 10,000 Push-up Challenge is nearly at an end and as wonderful as it is to be so close to finishing the challenge, I’m looking forward to it being over!

And I’m also sore because the scale refuses to budge from 174 lbs.

I am definitely getting fitter and stronger and I feel that I’m still losing fat because I’m starting to see veins where I’ve never seen veins before.

But in the areas of my body where I most want to see the fat gone, it refuses to budge.

There are a few things wrong at this point

1, My suboptimal approach to weight loss is, er… suboptimal – the method that helped me drop 30lbs isn’t working because I’m not working the method.

2. The increased exercise is giving me a raging appetite. I didn’t have this with the first 30lbs because the most exercise I was doing was walking twice a day for 30 minutes.

3. I’ve gained some muscle. I can’t prove it conclusively but looking at my arms and chest I can see a big difference. I don’t know how many pounds I’ve added… maybe 2 over the last 3 months? The point being, that this is reflected in the scale weight and might be the reason I’m losing fat but not losing weight.

4. Other life issues. I seem to have entered a particularly challenging phase of life and unwittingly I’ve  exacerbated this with my crazy (but fun and worthwhile) exercise challenge.

5. Lack of sleep – With all the extra stuff going on I’m tired and as a result my productivity and efficiency is dropping. I’m talking more time to get less done. Staying up late to get it all done and sleeping less seemed to be the answer, but I can see how it’s actually the problem. The fatigue is killing my resolve to stick to the eating plan.

But  I’m going to put up with all of that, because despite everything….

I feel amazing!

I feel good about the challenge, I feel good about the way my body looks, I feel good that I’m stronger and fitter.

Compared to the way I was a year ago I feel utterly amazing.


Since my last update I haven’t been able to find my tape measure. It’s one of those retractable MyoTapes and when it’s not being used as a tape measure the children use it as a toy. With that being the case I have to accept that I might never see it again.

So right now I only have the scale and the pictures as a measure of my progress.

June 27
174lbs – 330 push ups – 1.5 miles

June 28
174lbs – 300 push ups – 1.5 miles

June 29
174lbs – 600 push ups – 1.5 miles

One final push to the finish line

Tomorrow is June 30th, the last day of the 10,000 push up challenge and the Marathon Challenge.

I could still fall that the final hurdle, so I’m taking nothing for granted!

Dude, you are starting to look anorexic.
I guess I should not say that for possible offense to some, not intended whatsoever.
You have had an outstandingly amazing month. Be very proud, in the right way, of what you have accomplished.
Looking forward to the end of month totals.

Thanks Bryan, I got what you meant 🙂

The other day my wife mentioned that I might be in danger of going too far. She didn’t mean it that way, it was more a remark on how much I’d changed.

I’m late with the update. I’ve lost my tape measure but the scale said I’m down to 172 lbs. That’s good enough.

July is going to be a good month. Thanks for cheering me on throughout June!! 🙂
