This is week 2 of ‘Be Grateful Every Day‘.

I restarted this gratitude project last week and every day I posted in the comments section the things I was grateful for.

Here’s a brief summary:

Monday: I was grateful my wife was able to take time off work.

Tuesday: I was grateful to find some space and a little peace of mind.

Wednesday: I was grateful that my dog hadn’t injured himself.

Thursday: I was grateful that I had cause to check the oil in my car because it was running on empty!

Friday: I was grateful that I had cause to check the oil level in my other car. Also empty!

Saturday: I was grateful for the clear poly envelopes for storing DVDs.

Sunday: I was grateful for my rivet gun.

If I had to pick the thing I’m most grateful for it would be the lucky chain of events that led me to check the oil in the cars. A seized up engine is a seriously bad thing.

The funny thing is, the events that caused me to check were unwelcome at the time, but subsequently turned out to be very beneficial.

It turns out that I’m rubbish at car maintenance and as a direct result I’ve now instituted a weekly check of the fluid levels on the cars. It’s a recurring event in my calendar and I aim to get the kids involved too.

So here’s to a new week of gratitude.

What are you grateful for today?

MONDAY: Today I’m grateful the training day at work. It was about leadership and I was able to test a lot of what I’ve picked up over the years, particularly from the likes of Seth Godin. BTW, I loved his latest book: The Icarus Deception.

TUESDAY: On Tuesday I was grateful for the trains. After work I had to drop my car into the dealership to get it fixed (the fuel filter was blocked (second time in two months!)). I don’t often use the railway network but becasue the dealership is in the neighbouring town it meant I could get home relatively cheaply. A cab would have cost an arm and a leg.

WEDNESDAY: The nice man at the dealership charged me only for the fuel filter and waived the labour charges. That was a very welcome but totally unexpected turn of events for which I’m grateful.

THURSDAY: I’m grateful that I know some nice people and that I got some time to talk to them today.

FRIDAY: I overslept today. I managed to sleep through two alarms. So I’m grateful that my eldest son woke me up and made sure I knew what time it was.

SATURDAY: Today I was grateful for the arrival of the weekend. It felt like it had been a long and arduos week, and having enjoyed an extra hour in bed I felt refreshed and a little more human.

SUNDAY: I’m grateful for my Kindle today. I saw a book I wanted to read and I didn’t want to wait for the paper copy to be delivered.
