“The wilderness is the term for the years (or decades) that a founder/entrepreneur/artist/technology must spend being ignored and unfunded before the breakthrough of overnight success occurs.”
I like this because it gives a little perspective.
It’s tempting to think that years spent learning new skills and building a home based business have been wasted simply because the efforts haven’t yet brought you the kind of income you want. Indeed, your endeavors may even be losing you money and that’s even tougher.
My own experience has shown me that being a full time parent whilst also making some major changes to your life (like building a business, failing, and building another) is incredibly tough.
During this period in the wilderness it’s often difficult to know whether what you’re doing is a failure waiting to be finalised or a success waiting to happen.
But I do love the idea that years of persistence can make you an overnight success.
The quote is from a blog post by Seth Godin. Read the full post here.
Are there any real overnight successes?
